Moshigou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Eastern Qinghai-SE Gansu border region. The Moshigou Fm was named by the Qinghai Province. Comprehensive Party of Geology, Northwest Bureau of Geology, Ministry of Geology in 1964. The type section is at Moshigou Gully, in Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province. It is the lower formation of the Huangzhong Gr.
Synonym: (磨石沟组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Moshigou Fm is composed of a littoral clastic rock association. It is mainly composed of milk-white, grey thick-bedded to massive quartzite, thin-bedded quartzite, quartzose sandstone intercalated with siliceous phyllite, and with a pebble-bearing quartzite in the base of the formation. It is recorded to 600 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base unconformably overlies the Dongchagou Fm of Huangyuan Gr
Upper contact
The top is conformably overlain by the Qingshipo Fm (the upper formation of the Huangzhong Gr)
Regional extent
Eastern Qinghai-SE Gansu border region. It is rather stable both in lithological character and thickness in its distribution region, which extends as long as 250 km in E-W direction. Thus, it is considered as regional key bed. In Laiqugou, and Shinabeigou, Ledu County, it is exposed sporadically as medium- to thick-bedded quartzite intercalated with biotite-quartz schist and two-mica quartz schist (643 m thick). Thus, it shows the metamorphism grade of the formation somewhat intensified from northwest to southeast direction.
